The Prison That Fear Made and We the willing captives

Memories fade
But the pain echoes
Wounds heal
But Fears reign
The way forward
Muddled with
Self-Doubts
And Disillusionment
Of Lessons
Learnt
And those
We need to Un-Learn

The road ahead lies
Like a mirage
So close
And yet so far
Dwelling in
Self-imposed Prisons
Like good little girls
Suffering becomes
Our medal of courage
Disturbing the silence
Of the tombs in our heart

When all is said and done
We only have misery for company
For we have been too afraid
Too conditioned by the chains
To break free and
LIVE in FREEDOM

FREEDOM TO SPEAK
FREEDOM TO DANCE
FREEDOM TO LOVE
FREEDOM TO CHOOSE
FREEDOM TO JUST BE

To die in prison, or to live in the vastness of freedom
We can be our own saviour and hero
Just as we can be our own oppressor and enemy
The choice is ours

THE WAY WITH WORDS

Words
How they injure and maim
The depth of each cut
Slices through every vein
Of our throbbing hearts

Inflicting pains
Without wounds
A Bloodless massacre
Surmounts
All our scars

Whence do they
Reap such powers?
Do hate and anger prey
On innocent flowers
Before they could bloom?

Without warning
They beguile and dazzle
The unsuspecting minds
Provoking the rise and fall
Of raptured emotions

Weaving beauty into every line
Embedding soft caresses
Into every whispered verb
Reigning our souls
With its impassioned speeches

How we worship
The Written Word
How we raze through
Every page or sentence
Of eloquence in nouns

Like a song it lulls
Every listener
To delirium
Sparing only
The deaf

The wielder of words
Disarms with
An Army of Language
He becomes
A Master of Universe.

AS FLEETING AS SNOW...

AS FLEETING AS SNOW...

Drapes of white purity
Burying the stark silhouette
Of what lies beneath

Sheer beauty lasts
Only a Season
Then the landscape changes yet again

As soon as it touches
The palm of your hands
It melts into obscurity

Snow falls
Then sleet thaws
Nothing is made to last forever

So, here we are
Chasing dreams and renting time
In someone else’s space

Moments like these
Are only on loan
We never know how each season fare

Standing here
A little scared
But I no longer care

When it is all OVER
I want you to know that I was with you when
I HAD THE TIME OF MY LIFE.

Still, I just want to feel a sense of you...(Poem)

Here lies the secret that no one knows
The very root of my joy and pain
It grows higher than any tree can touch the sky
It runs deeper than any mind can hide
It is the same wonder
That is keeping the stars apart

I'd give anything just to have a day -
One more day
To spend with you
Nothing more
Nothing less

Only to have the chance to speak this simple truth -

By my own doing,
I have failed so miserably
Not to realise just how much
You truly mean to me

I was a child
A terribly spoilt immature child
Who knew nothing of value
Yet you understood and just allowed me to grow
At my own time and pace
Into the person I am today

I wish you were here to see
How that horrid little weed
Is blossoming into a half-decent flower
Right at this moment
For this better part of me
Is the one I'd like to give to you

My darling -

I carry you in my heart
I carry your heart in my heart
Wherever I go, I bring you with me
In my thoughts, tucked safely in a place
Named: SWEETEST MEMORIES

This is all I can do now
For the truth is far too cruel
I know I can never be with you

You lie somewhere in an unmarked grave
And to this day, I still don't know where

Not been given a chance to say goodbye
Not even just to say, THANK YOU
FOR BEING THE BEST AND GREATEST FRIEND

No one understands me as completely and thoroughly as you did
No one ever could
I guess among all the things I miss the most
This is one of it
It has not been the same since you left this earth
The empty space between past and present
Has grown into an impossible hole
That no one else can fill

It has been 12 years and counting
And yet the wound still feels fresh and new
As if I have lost you all over again

Could this be the reason why I cannot love again?
Or perhaps I just don't want to?

I have never been good at dealing with loss and death
I hate every single thing about it
It robs everything and everyone I adore from me

Wherever you are now, my dearest heart
May you truly know this
That I did love you
And I am sorry I never had the chance to tell you

Goodbye, my dearest precious friend
I am going to let you go now
Thank you for keeping me company in all this time
May we see each other again in another life.

DAY 39: THE MAKINGS OF A STEEL TOFU

DAY THIRTY-NINE: Wednesday, 28th April 2010

I am sorry if I don't parade

My shattered sensibilities

Around my neck,

Like a garland of self-pity

For the whole world to see.

I apologise

If I don't shout in pain

Or cry when I bleed.

It's not that I am numb

Or profoundly dumb.

If you could see further

Than what meets my eyes

Then you too would know

How there is nothing

Left in me

That is

Unscathed.

Though there are scars in abundance,

Even tombstones and sorrows

Deep within me,

They leave no pain,

No tear, or whatever else

Which lies beyond remedy.

And all the wounds

I have gathered to this day

Will be named: FRIENDSHIP

Though their marks

Are everlasting,

Bright as a jewel,

I am wiser now

Than ever before.

And may be I can never be

As soft as tofu,

Or demure like a blushing bride,

And that my steel exterior

May seem crude and cold,

The sacred truth is simple,

There is a heart

That beats inside of me

With every breath,

With every passion,

It still beats.

I still believe in the pursuit of life, love and happiness

Just perhaps without sex

Because enjoyment in life does not stem from that

Or revolve around that.

Yes, that’s just me.

It is not a phase or a whim of the moment.

It has been a life long road to realisation.

And no, I am not depriving myself either.

And no, it is not going to take someone to come along and  make me feel otherwise.

In fact it is the exact opposite.

So, here is my DAY THIRTY-NINE :-

Weight: 53kg

No. Of Prostrations: 150 (no, it is not a typo. I did 150)

Daily Sadhanas: Check and Done with Death Meditation and Dzambala Mantra.

Physical Exercise: 45 mins

Daily Reflection from "IF NOT NOW, WHEN?" – Here we go. I close my eyes and I picked out page 101.

OH MY GAWD! I LOVE THIS QuoTE!

Quote from Page 101 for Day Thirty-Nine:

“We transform our minds because we love people – we love our parents, our spouses, our lovers, our friends and the people around us. We transform our minds out of love. It is not something negative that we have to do.”

Personal Thoughts and Feelings:

*Shirley can’t stop laughing*

And you wonder why...?

DAY 33: The EGO died this morning at 4am sharp

DAY THIRTY-THREE: Thursday, 22nd April 2010

The sword glimmers like a jewel

As it catches the light

Before it slices through the air

And cuts off my head

A river of red flows

Carrying the debris

From a beginning that has no end

My heart still beats

But softly now

The head gave a final

Shrilling scream

Before descending

Into a tomb of silence

I lay me down to rest

To a place I truly belong

As the dirt beneath your feet

And here I shall stay

Happily

Kissing the soles of every being

Nurturing every soul

From the ground up

Now, we can get on with DAY THIRTY-THREE :-

Weight: 53kg

No. Of Prostrations: 40

Daily Sadhanas: Check and Done with Death Meditation and Dzambala Mantra.

Physical Exercise: 35 minutes

Daily Reflection from "IF NOT NOW, WHEN?" – Here we go. I close my eyes and I picked out page 053.

Quote from Page 053 for Day Thirty-Three:

“Anger is impermanent; disharmony is impermanent.

We must ask ourselves where we will be once that is over.

That’s more important than the moment of anger.”

Personal Thoughts and Feelings:

It is a good thing I just killed the ego then.

I don’t have to deal with its sanctimonious Bull Shit Fury anymore.

Now, moving on swiftly....hello Day 34 and to the rest of my blissfully hope-filled life!

Day 32: OF GOD, HAPPINESS, BUDDHA & LOVE

DAY THIRTY-TWO: Wednesday, 21st April 2010

Lately, I am in a poetic mood. This is something I have written a while back.

And I dedicate this poem to everyone, because we are the sum of life on earth.

Soft like snow

Healing like rain

Passionate like a storm

Warm as yellow

Rich as purple

Pure as white

After the snow melts

After the rain floods

After the storm rages

The sun rises

And a rainbow shines over us

Like a glorious halo

We are

As always

The embodiment

Of all life and colours

Of the earth.

We go through many things in life - from learning to walk our first few steps to running wild, and then believing that we can fly. In some experiences, we come out on top. While in others, we get knocked up. Soon we will discover that each experience is in itself a crucial lesson. When we refuse to stay down and be weighed down, when we persist and proceed, we can even reach for the stars.

Before we learnt how to laugh, we actually came out of our mother's wombs, crying and screaming. This may be why we may tend to laugh less and cry more. Hence, knowing how to protect our hearts becomes a priority and learning to trust someone becomes a scarcity. But in true living and loving, we will treasure both joyful laughter and tears of pain.

Finally, when we are laid to rest in our final box, we will disintegrate into the soil of mother earth. Will beautiful flowers grow right above us? Or even a tree? Will we be remembered for the things we did, said and built? Or will we be defined by the people we love? Did we leave behind a trail of mess and pain, or do we have a heritage of values to pass on?

Ashes to ashes, dust to dust, life in its ever changing twists and turns, takes each of us through a seemingly endless cycle. When our final resting hour beckons, all will be too late, all will be lost. So, why wait till then?

Say the things you want to say to the people you love or dream to love. Grab hold of them, and love them without pride or conditions. Forgive the people in your life now, because regret is a poison that will sting you in the end. You'll never know if their time on earth is going to be as long as yours.

Forgive, forget and let it go. The world has enough of garbage as it is. We do not need to add to the rubbish.

Cleanse your mind as you cleanse your soul.

Keep it real, stay true to yourself.

All we have right now is just time. And when that is taken away, there is really nothing left. Eventually, even the body that you have right now, will betray you. WE will grow old, become sick and die. And when we leave this place, we can't take anyone or anything along with us.

Now for my DAY THIRTY-TWO :-

Weight: 53kg

No. Of Prostrations: 40

Daily Sadhanas: Check and Done with Death Meditation and Dzambala Mantra.

Physical Exercise: 35 minutes

Daily Reflection from "IF NOT NOW, WHEN?" – Here we go. I close my eyes and I picked out page 029.

Quote from Page 029 for Day Thirty-Two:

“If you believe in God, that’s fabulous; if you believe in Buddha, that’s fabulous; if you don’t believe in anything, that’s fabulous.

But please believe in yourself and please believe in the happiness you can bring to the people around you.

Believe in that.

Wouldn’t that be lovely? “

Personal Thoughts and Feelings:

Life is too short to be summed up in anger, hate, resentment, bitterness and pain.

Are you going to allow your life to be defined that way?

Happiness does lie in the deeds of your hands, in the words from your lips and in the thoughts within your mind.

Above all, it is in your caring heart.

Enough said.

Message to SELF: What Remains of the "Cause & Effect"....

Date: 22nd December 2009
Time: 58 minutes past midinight

Title of this entry: MESSAGE TO SELF

Purpose of this entry: To Remind and Slap Myself

Why: Because I am just getting too irritable and grouchy lately. And there should be no excuse.

This delightful play called
"CAUSE & EFFECT"
Which we have enabled
Through our various
Decisions, Speech and Actions Made
But we abhor
The results and consequences.

Do we suffer
Because of them?
Or allow others to suffer
Because of them?
Because of us?

How many of us
Have really pondered
Upon what we have actually
Said and done?

Do we even see ourselves
In the carnage or the wreckage?

From the very day
We learnt how to use words
And understood how to take action -
How have we used these 'talents'?

Did we use words
To cause further grief or promote joy?
Have our actions
Elicit positive or negative reactions
From those around us?

How many of us
Will really find the courage
To own up and take responsibility
For the various situations
That we have carved ourselves into?
Not to mention
Those we have caused others to fall into as well.

Perhaps it has become too easy
And convenient
To blame others
For everything that does not go our way

Perhaps it is less painful
To know that the real enemy
Lies within ourselves
And not outside.

Doubt not,
The cycle will not end
And it will most likely
REPEAT itself
Over and over again

How can anything change when we don't change?

If we want a different result, a better set of consequences - begin by first changing ourselves and not ask others to change their attitude towards us.

We must change our own attitude first and foremost. Here, I am alluding to the attitude of our mind.

As much as we have been the recipient, we have also been the perpetrator - antagonising others silently, viciously or even un-knowingly.

I know many people will protest and say, why must they do all the work and why must they be the ones to make the first move?

Well, for those who ask these types of questions and similar questions - I have only this to ask of them -

Do you want a better ending to your story?

Do you want a happier situation?

Would you like to see a solution rather than more problems arising?

Would you like a more positive response from others around?

If your answer is yes to any of the above, then what are you waiting for?

Do you think it is someone else's job to do all the above for you?

How much success have any of your old thinking and existing methods helped you in any way?

Have you not waited long enough for others to do what you deemed or thought as the right thing to do, but you just sat there and did nothing in return?

If you seriously believe in taking control of your own life, you will NEVER wait for someone else to do what is right. Most of all, you will not waste time in wanting or asking someone else to do YOUR job.

You will do it yourself and you will go all the way.

You will not stop because no one gives you a medal for trying your best.

You will not whine and cry because no one handed you a trophy for coming all this way.

You will not shout and scream because the results you seek are not materialising immediately or as fast as you expect them.

No - you will do what is right because it is the MOST BENEFICIAL thing to do for everyone, including yourself.

You will undertake it all because you believe you hold your own stake in peace, happiness and harmony.

If you truly want to contend yourself with just being the recepient and not an active participant in life, then please give up all control and stop complaining. Just take and accept what comes your way or not come. Because you have already surrendered all your rights to DO, to TAKE PART, to be INVOLVED and STEER your life.

To make a difference, first BECOME THE DIFFERENCE.

Until then, please just shut up and save your B.S for some new audience to fool.

And you know what they say about audience - we can only fool them once. Pretty soon, we'll also run out of new audience.

There, enough words for reminding - Can I slap you now, Shirley?

"THERE IS NO VACATION IN SAMSARA"

We take flights
To Places
Exotic and Far

We travel
Everywhere
Just to get away

Our desires and sensory pursuits
CONSUME
All of our senses
Like a tired old song
That refuses to end

We can run
But we can never hide
Because there is no escape
From an INFLICTED MIND

An unstable mind
Is the most dangerous weapon of all

It kills you slowly like a song
It drains you without drawing blood
Before you know it
You are a walking corpse
Feeding on those around you

Samsara is our worldly world
Samsara is what we have created
Samsara is our reality, our thoughts,
Our daily life

It haunts you when you close your eyes
It teases you when you are wide awake
This sums up our everyday struggle -
The manifestations of the mind's
Exquisite shadow play

How can there be a holiday in Samsara
When our mind is so "UNTAMED"?

The real wild beast is the one that dwells inside our heads.

Tame that beast and you will become the rightful MASTER of your own destiny.

Until then, it is all just another delusion.

Happiness, Peace

Homage to the Adamantine Garnet Goddess: VY

Here begins my love affair with the most beautiful but ferocious uber VAMP...

She walks in flames of ruby red fire,
Like the sun bursting in volcanic lava,
Her orange vermillion hair
Drapes her luscious neck,
Like the consummation of passion & desire.

Her eyes emit lightning darts
Crushing your ego,
Her lips part just enough
To swallow your ignorance whole,
The more you yearn
The deeper she'll burn
Luring you with raging sensuous heat
Into her silky satin web,
As your mind becomes her lair of games.

SHE'll have you crawling on your knees
SHE'll have you begging PLEASE!
SHE'll have you stripped, whipped and bared
BECAUSE
SHE stands as the epitomy
Of seductive compassion in action,
Masking salvation
In latex and garters,
Peeling away all lies and fears,
Leaving no one behind.

Begin your own love affair with this red hot babe today.

Would you dare?

Naked and conquered,
Yours,

Shirley Maya
